Talking tyres - everything you need to know about trailer wheels to keep your business moving
Since October 2014, all new-build trailers are required by law to conform to the new EU Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval legislation. One of the implications of this legislation is that all new trailers must be fitted with a reverse lamp by law. Consequently the old 7-pin socket arrangement was no longer a viable option, and trailer manufacturers needed a new wiring arrangement which allowed for 8 cores of cable. The result was the new 8-pin plugs and sockets, which were derived from the old European style 13-pin plugs and sockets with 5 of the pins removed.
This can cause compatibility issues between old vehicles and new trailers, or new vehicles and old trailers, where one will be fitted with the new 8-pin system and the other will be fitted with the old 7-pin system. Below we show a number of conversion leads which are designed to overcome this challenge.
In addition, we stock conversion leads to connect the old twin-electrics system to the new 13-pin system which are generally used on caravans.
